GALATEA_RESET, a work of lyric theater for singers & robots by Maurice Wright and Rolf Lakaemper, treats the mythological characters Acis, Galatea, Polyphemus and Pygmalion and the multiple paths of their stories through history. Referencing related works by Handel, Shaw, and Rosseau, the work is a collaboration between Rolf Lakaemper and Maurice Wright that was inspired by the idea of using robots to carry loudspeakers to create spatial music. The boundaries of the work expanded to include an exploration of the notions of autonomy, free will, and the role of history in a contemporary narrative.
A young and attractive cast performing in the intimate settings of the Conwell Dance Theater promise a diverting musical entertainment that employs video projections and real-time computer sound to create a rich palette of sounds and images.
